La Nicchia
About This Spot
Stepping into La Nicchia on Via Tempio feels like slipping into a snug corner of Sassari where time moves at a gentle, unhurried rhythm. The warm glow of soft lighting, the hum of quiet conversation, and the inviting aroma of wood-fired dough mingling with fresh herbs create a welcoming embrace that makes you want to stay just a little longer. It’s the type of spot where the focus is on shared moments—whether that’s a laugh over a bubbling pizza or a thoughtful silence while savoring a slice.
This unassuming pizza restaurant carries a distinct sense of place, rooted deeply in Italian tradition yet lightly brushed with Sardinian character. Here, crusts are thoughtfully chosen to your preference—the earthiness of a super-thin base balancing beautifully with the vibrant, fresh toppings that arrive perfectly baked and glistening with flavor. You might find yourself enchanted by unexpected blends: the crispy, nutty crunch of zucchini flowers paired with creamy cheese, or a subtle nod to local ingredients like bottarga gracing the tender tomato slices.
La Nicchia is not just about the food, though. It’s the humbling delight of genuine hospitality that makes this spot linger in memory. From the cheerful welcome to the warmth of the staff patiently explaining the day's specials, there’s an unmistakable feeling of a neighborhood gem that gathers friends old and new. The small space, often humming with anticipation and softened by the casual chatter of diners, creates an intimate setting where eating becomes as much about connection as about taste.
Whether you arrive early to nab a coveted table on the street or slip in for a late evening slice, there is a quietly joyful pulse to the place. It feels alive with little discoveries—a perfectly fried piece of pizza that’s more than just an appetizer, the delicate balance of seasonal vegetables and rich cheeses, and the careful attention that makes a dessert feel like a gentle surprise. Here, the act of sharing a meal is quietly celebrated, inviting you to slow down and enjoy a simple, well-crafted moment away from the ordinary.

Food here was delish!!! We walked in at 7:10 (they open at 7) and they were fully reserved with one table open! So I would recommend you call ahead with reservations. For an appetizer, we tried the “fori de latte” fried pizza, it came out in a 4 serving, pictured is only one portion. We also got the Margarita, Rosa di sera (which was prosciutto, burrata, tomato and herb), Domani mi metto a dieta (which translates something like forget my diet. Comes with prosciutto and fried eggplant) and cutto e funghi (mushroom and prosciutto). For the crust you can request thick (Classico) or thin (ischicciadda). We got the margarita with thick crust. The rest with thin crust. Everything was delicious and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. The crust on the fried pizza was out of this world good! My husband and I’s favourite was the Cutto e fungi but all of the pizzas were really good. We ordered 4 pizzas plus the appetizer pizza (5 dishes total) came out to €63. The pizzas were a good size So I’d say well priced as well. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area (and if you’re not, then worth the trip )

The pizza was great, tasty. The service was fast and the staff was very kind. They have various type of pizzas, hard to choose one. I recommend them

This place is SUCH a gem! Seriously I had the best pizza of my life here. The combination of flavors was perfect. The ingredients were fresh, and you could tell they were of the highest quality. I’m really impressed. The staff is very friendly and professional. If I ever return to Sardinia, I’ll definitely visit this place again and bring my friends. It was a great pleasure to dine at La Nicchia.
